Tour 2: Finding a Location by It's Place Name
To find the 'Flaming Gorge Dam' using the ‘All
Topo Maps: UTAH’ collection. Press the Place
button
then enter the first few characters of the place name:

The grid instantly moves to show all of the place
names that are close.
Double click the 'Flaming Gorge Dam' entry.
The 'Dutch John' topographical map will be loaded,
and centered at the Flaming Gorge Dam. The dam location
will be noted with a blue note:

Finding a Location If You 'Kind of Know It's Name'
Use the 'Advanced Search' tab when you don't know the
exact name of a location, but you do know a few
characters contained in the place name of what you are
looking for.
For example:
A 'Simple Search' finds no match for 'Box Butte' in
the Utah map collection. Press the button (or press
'Alt-P'), then select the 'Advanced Search' tab, and
enter 'box butte' in the search box, then press 'Submit
Search'.

It takes All Topo Maps a few moments to search
through the thousands of place names and display the
search results. Next double click the highlighted
location or press 'Display Selected Place' to load and
display the 'Clay Basin' topographical map. Again, the
'Band Box Butte' is centered and noted on your display.
The 'Advanced Search' tool is a great way to explore
for generic features like hot springs too. Using the
Idaho map collection we can quickly explore Idaho (and
Yellowstone) hot springs:
